Omani man dies in house fire, family escapes

Muscat: An Omani man was killed when his two bed-room caravan-style house was destroyed in a fire that broke out on Thursday morning in the Maabela area of Seeb district in Muscat.

His wife and children, however, escaped unharmed, according to a report in the government-owned local Arabic daily - Oman.

Efforts to rescue the trapped man, who has not been identified, from the burning caravan failed.

Lt. Faisal Bin Hamid Beit Fadhil from the Al Khoud police station said the cause of the fire is being investigated.

He added that heavy flames, especially at the entrance to the rooms of the house prevented Civil Defence personnel from reaching the man.
