Muscat: Oman has pledged support to Jordan under the leadership of King Abdullah II Al Hussain, reports Oman News Agency.
A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA), said: “The Sultanate is closely tracking the developments in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Oman affirms that it stands by the Kingdom under the leadership of the Jordanian King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, and offers its firm support for everything that would guarantee the security, sovereignty and stability of Jordan.”
The same message was also tweeted by Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Media reports around the world carried the news of Jordanian government arresting high-profile figures in the kingdom, with officials citing “the security and stability of Jordan”.
Reports indicated that Bassem Awadallah, a long-time confidant of King Abdullah II who later became minister of finance, and Sharif Hassan bin Zaid, a member of the royal family who was the former royal envoy to Saudi Arabia, were detained along with other unnamed figures.
