Conman specialising in 'witchcraft' arrested in Oman

Police swooped on the Asian con-artist, an Asian, when he was found preying upon potential victims

Muscat: A fraudster who allegedly used ‘witchcraft’ to con his victims out of their money was arrested by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), it was announced on Sunday.

Police swooped on the con-artist, an Asian, from a mosque in Muttrah in the historical quarter of the capital city, where he was found preying upon potential victims. During a search of his premises, police found 5,378 rials (approximately Dh 51,000) in cash believed to have been ill-gotten earnings from his ‘witch-craft’ related scams. Literature and accessories used by the alleged conman in defrauding his victims were also seized.

Investigators also found that the man was illegally residing in the sultanate. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution pending his trial, the ROP report added.
