Muscat A total of 39 infiltrators were caught in two separate incidents, according to a Royal Oman Police (ROP) statement Friday.

"Eighteen of the infiltrators were caught in Seeb district," Ali Al Kabi, a spokesperson for the ROP Public Relations department said.

He said that the 18, suspected to be Pakistani nationals, were arrested on land but are suspected to have disembarked by boats along the beach area from Qurum to Seeb.

In another incident, citizens in Liwa town, in north of Oman, helped police arrested 29 infiltrators on board a boat.

The illegal immigrants were largely involved in drug trafficking, violation of telecommunications laws, human trafficking, bootlegging as well as various other criminal activities.

Al Kasbi said that a round-the-clock toll-free hotline (800 77 444) has been set up on which residents can report cases of infiltration and about residents harbouring illegal resident.
