Dubai: A drone crashed in the Um Uthaina neighbourhood of Jordan’s capital, causing material damage but no injuries, according to state-run Petra news agency. Authorities confirmed the drone impacted the area fully, and an investigation has been launched to determine its origin.

Jordan's Military Information Director, Brigadier General Mustafa al-Hiyari, confirmed that the drone was a “Shahed 101” and crashed on Monday afternoon, damaging the outer courtyard of a restaurant.

The drone was carrying an explosive warhead, which fortunately did not detonate. Security teams and the Royal Engineering Corps secured the site and safely dismantled the warhead.

Dozens of drone incidents reported in Jordan

Al Hiyari noted that hundreds of drones and missiles have partially entered Jordanian airspace in recent months, though most caused minimal damage and no serious injuries.

He added that 30 drones had fully entered Jordan with their full payloads, and only three of them struck populated areas — Um Uthaina, Abu Nseir, and Azraq.

Authorities urge public to stay alert

Citizens have been advised not to approach fallen objects and to report any sightings immediately by calling 911. Al-Hiyari also stressed the importance of sheltering indoors when sirens sound and warned that fallen drones or debris may contain explosive materials or hazardous chemicals. Allowing emergency teams space to respond is critical to public safety.

Jordanian authorities reassured residents that the situation is under control, with no current threat to public safety. Life in Amman continues as normal.

Earlier drone crash injured children

This marks the second drone-related incident in Jordan within a week. On June 20, the Jordanian Armed Forces reported that an explosive-laden drone crashed in the Azraq area after losing guidance and failing to reach its target.

The drone fell near a home in a residential area within the Urban Development Zone, injuring two children and causing significant material damage. According to experts from the Royal Engineering Corps, a technical malfunction in the drone's operating system led to the crash.

The explosion created a crater 3.2 metres wide and 90 centimetres deep, with debris scattered up to 200 metres from the site. Shrapnel also damaged the front of a nearby house.

Civil Defense teams, engineering units, and security forces responded promptly, evacuating the injured and securing the scene. An investigation into that incident is also ongoing.
