Manama: The body of a Bahraini tourist Ali Al Saeed, 25, was found at 7am on Tuesday about 1.5 kilometres from where he had disappeared at the northern end of the beach in a Thai resort, the Phuketwan newspaper reported.

Bahraini embassy officials have been informed and are awaiting formal identification of the man, the report said.

Al Saeed was swimming with two Bahraini friends when they found themselves in difficulties. The two friends were, however, pulled out of the water and a search and rescue operation was launched to find Al Saeed.

The three tourists were staying at a resort in Karon. Patong, Karon and Kata are Phuket's most popular west coast tourist destinations.

According to the report, a Chinese tourist also drowned the same day. He was pulled from the water and later died at Patong Hospital. He and his wife were staying in Kata.
