Rostov-on-Don: Law enforcement authorities in Chechnya say an alleged militant has been killed and four police wounded in separate outbreaks of violence in the war-scarred Russian province.
Skirmishes persist nearly a decade after government forces gained control over the region in the second of two devastating post-Soviet conflicts.
Chechnya's Interior Ministry said police shot and killed an alleged militant who opened fire when they tried to arrest him early Tuesday southwest of the capital, Grozny. in the an alleged militant d post-Soviet war.
The ministry said three federal police troops and one Chechen police officer were seriously wounded by gunmen who attacked their position in mountainous southeastern Chechnya twice late Monday.
The attackers avoided capture.
