London:  A baby sharing a bath with his brother died in eight inches of water after their mother left them unattended for two minutes.

Horrified Amy Denning returned from cleaning a changing mat to find 11-month-old Oliver submerged and limp, an inquest was told.

She picked up the unconscious boy and ran from the house, screaming: "He's dead, I've killed him."

Denning told police she left Oliver in the bath with his older brother Jacob for just two minutes while she cleaned the mat that had been soiled during a nappy change.

When she returned, Oliver was under the water and was grey coloured with blue lips. After the inquest in Sheffield, Denning was comforted by husband Richard as she spoke out to warn other parents not to risk making the same mistake.

"There is not a minute which goes by where I don't miss him with all my heart," she said.

"Oliver was a warm and loving baby and the light of our lives. He brought joy to myself, my husband and our family."

Warning

"I would like to tell everyone never to leave a child in the bath, even for a second."

"I never thought for a minute this would happen and I would hate it to happen to any other family."

Denning had been seen screaming and running down an alleyway with Oliver, before she attempted CPR on her son in a neighbour's kitchen.

He was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital and kept alive on a ventilator but died a week later.
