Guatemala: Glitter, sparkle and a whole lot of cake. That’s how 57-year-old Trompita celebrated her birthday on Sunday at the Aurora zoo in Guatemala City. The pachyderm, an Asian elephant rescued from a circus in 2008, was treated by her handlers to a 105-kilo cake made of fruits and vegetables.

Trompita eats about 181kg of fruits and vegetables each day, and it is expected that she could live to age 70 in captivity, although Asian elephants in the wild usually live to the age of 48.
