Explosion kills 4 and injures 10 in housing area

Manila: At least four people died and 10 others were wounded when a large cache of explosives blew up yesterday in a housing area south of Manila.

The explosion also gutted six houses.

Police have not identified the dead and wounded in the explosion at Sorrento subdivision, in the village of Panapaan in Bacoor town of Cavite province, south of Manila.

Earlier, Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, Cavite police director, said a man and a woman died and an undetermined number of people were trapped in the collapsed townhouses.

Police said the blast was heard several kilometres away from the subdivision and was so loud that it alarmed even shoppers at the nearby Shoemart mall, who thought the blast was inside the mall.
