Pakistan’s foreign ministry on Thursday summoned a senior Indian diplomat to condemn the latest incident of firing by Indian troops across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, which left one civilian dead and four injured on the Pakistan side.

According to a foreign affairs ministry press release acting Indian Deputy High Commissioner Raghuram was told “the deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws.”

The Indian side was urged to respect the 2003 LoC ceasefire arrangement, investigate incidents of violations and instruct forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit.

Thursday’s incident in Nikial sector was the latest in a cycle of recurring skirmishes on the de facto border.
