Massive new hospital in Pakistan’s Gujranwala to be complete by next year

A separate complex of 10 operating theatres is part of the plan

Lahore: Construction of the 500-bed Tertiary Care Hospital in Pakistan’s Gujranwala city will be completed by the end of 2017 authorities say.

The project is expected to cost Rs3.9 billion (Dh136 million).

Speaking during the inspection of 500-bed Tertiary Care Hospital in Gujranwala, the chief minister’s health adviser Khawaja Salman Raffique said the provision of best health care facilities to the people of Punjab is the top priority of the government for which state-of-the-art hospitals equipped with all latest facilities are being constructed in the province.

He said the hospital would be another milestone in providing the latest health facilities for the people of Punjab.

He said, after the completion of this hospital, the latest tertiary care facilities would be available for people of Gujranwala division and other areas, which would be helpful in reducing the work load of tertiary care hospitals in Lahore.

While giving briefing about the project Gujranwala Medical College principal Professor Aftab Mohsin said the hospital would be a six-storey building consisting on three blocks and the total covered area would be 33,445 square metres. He said the total area of the hospital consists of 2.4 hectares.

Moreover, a separate complex of operation theatres is the part of the plan, which would consist of 10 operation theatres.

He said the hospital would provide all tertiary care medical facilities including paediatric medicine, paediatric surgery, general surgery, medicines, ENT, ophthalmology, pathology labs, all diagnostic facilities, organ transplant, cardiac unit, ICU, CCU and dialysis facilities for kidney patients.

Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education (SH & ME) Najam Ahmad Shah assured that government would provide required funds for this purpose. It was informed that Rs1.4 billion would be spent on civil work while medical equipments and other diagnostic machineries worth Rs1.7 billion would be procured for the hospital.
