Islamabad: The Pakistani military says Indian troops fired across the border running through the disputed territory of Kashmir, killing one Pakistani soldier and wounding another.

The military said in a statement the Pakistani soldiers were hit Tuesday near Rawalakot in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.

It also demanded a meeting with senior Indian officials to protest the incident.

India's military could not immediately be reached for comment.

The heavily militarized territory of Kashmir is claimed in its entirety by Pakistan and India - both nuclear armed nations - and the dispute has sparked two wars between the rival countries.
