Lucknow: In a seemingly bizarre incident, a mother hired a criminal to kill her own son who had been making lewd advances to his sister and mother.
The mother, Asha Bajpai, has been arrested and sent to jail by the Lucknow police.
According to Lucknow police chief Ashutosh Pandey, Asha Bajpai lodged a complaint with the Talkatora police on January 14 that her son Mukesh, 27, had not returned home the previous night.
A day later, the body of the young man, later identified as Mukesh Bajpai, was found in Sambhal Khera locality in Krishna Nagar police circle.
Investigations
Police investigations revealed that Mukesh's close friend Lallan, who had been seen last with the victim, had been missing from his house since the day Mukesh reportedly disappeared.
Lallan who works as a carpenter in a furniture store was finally arrested on Monday.
During interrogation, Lallan disclosed that he had been paid Rs 5,000 (Dh406) as advance by Mukesh's mother to kill her son because was family was 'disgusted' with the young man's behaviour.
The police arrested Asha Bajpai who confessed to the crime and related the circumstances that forced her to take this drastic step.
Talking to reporters at the police station, Asha said, "My husband, a railway employee, has been bedridden for several months and the family has been passing through financial crisis. Mukesh was a drunkard and never made any financial contribution to the family.
"Instead he would snatch away whatever money we had and spend it on drinking. We tolerated this but things became unbearable when he started making sexual advances towards his own sister and even tried to molest me twice. I could not bear this shame and decided to take his life." Asha reportedly took Lallan into confidence and sought his help in eliminating her son. Lallan agreed and Asha mortgaged her family jewellery for Rs8,000 and gave Rs 5,000 as an advance to Lallan.
No regrets
On January 13, Lallan took Mukesh to a secluded spot and the two went on a drinking binge. When Mukesh got drunk, Lallan took out his pistol and shot his friend in the head. Mukesh died on the spot and Lallan fled the scene.
The following day, Bajpai went to the police station to lodge a complaint about her missing son.
"I have no regrets for what I did. What he was doing was unpardonable. He was my son and I will mourn his death all my life but I am happy that, at least, my daughter is safe now," Asha said before being taken to jail.
