The specific reason for the employee's leave request being denied is still unknown

A government employee allegedly stabbed at least four colleagues after being denied leave in Kolkata’s Newtown area, officials said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Amit Kumar Sarkar, worked in a state government department, according to India Today.
A viral video captured him walking through city streets holding a blood-stained knife, terrifying passersby who pleaded with him to drop the weapon. Some bystanders filmed the scene on their phones as he warned them to stay away.
He was eventually arrested after a traffic police officer firmly ordered him to surrender. Sarkar complied and was taken into custody.
“A resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, he works in the technical education department. This morning, following a dispute with colleagues over leave, he attacked them with a knife before attempting to flee,” a senior police official said.
The injured colleagues were rushed to a nearby hospital, with two reportedly in critical condition. The exact reason for Sarkar’s leave request being denied remains unclear.
Police suspect he may have mental health issues. Further investigation is underway.
