Peru’s seismic history

Located on the Pacific’s Ring of Fire, Peru experiences frequent seismic activity, with at least 100 detectable earthquakes each year.
In 2021, a 7.5-magnitude quake in the Amazon injured 12 people and destroyed more than 70 homes. The deadliest on record remains the 1970 Ancash earthquake, which killed around 67,000 people.
