Year of the 50th: Maitha Bint Ahmed Al Nahyan Foundation joins Ride United

Abu Dhabi: In celebration of the UAE’s Golden Jubilee, the Maitha Bint Ahmed Al Nahyan Foundation for Community and Cultural Initiatives took part in the ‘Ride United’ event, alongside the UAE Team Emirates riders on Al Hudayriyat Island on Wednesday.

Sheikha Maitha Bint Ahmed Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, took this opportunity as part of the foundation’s commitment to contribute to the success of Abu Dhabi’s community sporting events.

300 cyclists

The event saw over 300 cyclists come together for the inclusive coaching clinics, followed by the National Day ride along. Children from ADNOC schools and ALDAR Academies were joined by a group of young Special Olympics cyclists invited by FAB, along with children of determination from the “Hope for Heroes” programme which is supported by team partner, G42. Budding cyclists from the community were also invited by the UAE Team Emirates’ co-title sponsor Emirates, Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company, ADQ and its newest team partner, Etisalat.

Support to growing sports initiatives

Sheikha Maitha said: “The UAE capital has added to its long record of achievements in the sporting arena with the recently earned prestigious ‘Bike City’ Label, bolstering its position as an international platform for cycling competitions and activities. The foundation’s participation in the Ride United event today (December 1) with the UAE Team Emirates demonstrates our efforts to support Abu Dhabi’s growing sports initiatives.”

She also announced the launch of the foundation’s first cycling team, adding to the celebrations of the nation’s 50th anniversary and the emirates recent recognition in the world of cycling.
