Dubai: The world's largest container ship, Emma Maersk from Denmark, made her maiden call at Jebel Ali port on Saturday.

Built in 2006, it can hold 1,400 more containers than any other ship is capable of carrying.

Other features include 30 cabins and 22 floors. It measures 397.71 metres in length and is 56.40 metres wide.

Emma Maersk Captain Kristian Johansen said that the ship needs a 15.5 metres-deep water level for it to float, and there must be two metres of water below the ship.

Dubai is the largest transshipment and trading hub in west central Asia and Jebel Ali port plays a key role in this development.
