Emergencies are what happen to our neighbours or their friends, never to us. So what's the need to be prepared for them?
Would your child be able to summon help in case he/she is lost in a mall? What would your kid do in case he/she has to face an emergency situation at home or on the playground? Friday posed a couple of hypothetical situations to children to find out how they would react in some stressful cases...
Emergencies are what happen to our neighbours or their friends, never to us. So what's the need to be prepared for them?
Okay. Remember the time Junior got lost while you were busy choosing a gift for his friend? Or the time you left the brats on their own at the park and they faithfully had a fall, scraped enough skin and dripped enough blood for everyone in the vicinity to go looking for the errant parent? And all this while you walked across the street to the vending machine to get a bottle of water?
Or, remember the time when you were busy gossiping with a neighbour you hadn't seen for weeks and spotted sparks and smoke emanating from your house where your kids were busy playing. Emergencies and the daily grind are a package deal, so it makes sense to be prepared.
First, by being aware of the dynamics of our everyday lives which telephone number to dial if there's a fire, accident, theft, etc? what first aid to administer a person in a case of an emergency? how to stay calm in a moment of crisis?.
Friday asked a few young readers to tell us how they would react in hypothetical crisis situations.
