Varsity to offer masters in Islamic Studies
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the UAE University will introduce a masters degree programme in Islamic Studies, said a top official of the faculty.
The introduction of the degree is part of the programme for this year which was announced by Professor Abdel Wahab Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
He was speaking at a meeting of the faculty members. The meeting also reviewed the faculty's performance in previous years and plans for the future.
It is one of the first four faculties of the university, and has 12 academic departments offering bachelors degrees in Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Literature, History and Archaeology, Geography, Philosophy, Sociology, English Language and Literature, Mass Communications, Social Work, Political Science, Psychology, and Family Sciences.
Professor Ahmed said the most important achievement of the faculty is the preparation of an educational plan with the help of a questionaire which was distributed among the students.
The faculty has set up new laboratories and upgraded the existing facilities to meet the students' requirements. The number of computers has also been increased.
Talking about the new plans and educational programmes, the dean said the faculty has planned to set up a new unit to learn French.
The faculty will invite external examiners to check educational standards. It has also prepared a plan to propose a self-education system that will improve the educational process at the faculty.
Professor Ahmed said a programme is already under implementation to review the curriculum to ensure that it meets the international standards and the requirements for achieving the set targets.
