UAE welcomes first babies born in 2011

As the clock ticked in the first minutes of 2011, hospitals in the UAE welcomed the first few babies delivered in the new year

Abu Dhabi: An Emirati baby and a baby of Yemeni-Djibouti-Spanish descent were the first deliveries of 2011 at the Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Nadia Regues Naguib was the first baby born in 2011 at the hospital, while Hessa Hamid Al Omaira was the first Emirati baby born in the hospital this year.

Hessa's father, Hamid Ali Al Omaira, 36, said he hoped the new addition to the family would bring his family prosperity this year.

The hospital also welcomed its last baby delivered in 2010: Rowdah Hussain Al Hamid, also an Emirati.

All three baby girls were in good health, doctors said.

Al Ain’s bundle of joy

In Al Ain, the city welcomed its first baby born just minutes after the new year at Oasis Hospital.

The baby boy, weighing 3.430 kilograms, was born at 12:08am on Saturday. His parents, Said Khamis Said Al Ghaithi and Laila Mohammad Khamis Al Ghaithi were delighted.
