Abu Dhabi: Two pedestrians were injured in separate incidents in the capital on Monday, Abu Dhabi police said. The victims — both Indians — were transported to the Al Mafraq hospital by the police.

One of the victims sustained severe injuries while the other had minor injuries.

Lieutenant Yousuf Ebrahim of the traffic police said that the first incident occurred on Khaleej Al Arabi road (Musaffah). "The accident occurred because the pedestrian crossed from a non-designated area", he said.

The second accident, which took place on Yas island, involved a cement mixer.

He said that the failure to give priority to pedestrians is one of the causes behind run-over accidents. He also stressed the need for pedestrians to cross at designated areas only.
