Dubai: A bus carrying construction workers collided with another vehicle yesterday, injuring 11, a day after a fatal crash by a bus killed nine workers.
The bus, belonging to Juma Al Majid construction company, collided with a trailer on Emirates Road just before noon.
Workers for the company, involved in the Dubai Mall project told Gulf News that their bus ran into the trailer "because it had stopped suddenly".
"The trailer had stopped in the middle of the road," said Indian national Abdul Hamid, a ductman with the company.
"The driver had to brake and managed to control the bus. If not, we might have been dead," said his colleague, electrician Akbar Basha, also from India.
Meanwhile, a man trying to cross the Shaikh Zayed Road last night was hit by a motorist and died on the spot, police said.
The Indian man died very near the spot where Thursday's accident occurred, witnesses said. Police said the motorist was an "European" woman. Apparently she did not expect that someone would walk across the road.
