Sharjah to crack down on illegal passenger transport

Sharjah: Officials at Sharjah Transport have announced that they will implement a new system by the beginning of the second quarter of next year to report violations of illegal passenger transport.

The new system, which costs Dh450,000 to implement, will record the time and place of the offence.

Ibtisam Obaidli, director of Information Technology in Sharjah Transport, said that the department has started receiving the electronic equipment that will record all violations of illegal passenger transport, and will also state which areas have most of the violations taken place.

She added that it will be available for each observer after the Department of Information Technology completes training for all observers on the device, pointing out that the training period is limited due to its ease of use.

"The system will have to pass through three stages before it is implemented. The first stage includes the testing of the equipment and the training of inspectors at the start of the project," Ibtisam said.

The second stage includes the process of registering the fines through the electronic devices while the third stage includes the post-launch of the project so that any traffic violation registered in the system will be instantly recorded in the system.

"The aim is to keep up with the electronic boom in the emirate of Sharjah and to use new technological systems that will benefit both the public and the authorities involved, as all the fines will be recorded electronically," she added.
