Sharjah: The Sahara Centre on Saturday officially inaugurated the Al Nahda pedestrian overpass. Commuters can now cross the busy Al Nahda Road using the walkway and gain direct access to the Sahara Centre.
The bridge which was installed last month was built at an estimated cost of Dh7 million.
Jean Pierre Nammour, managing director of the Sahara Centre, said: "The new pedestrian bridge is now operational and is a significant step towards providing an easy, safe and convenient option to residents living in the Al Nahda neighbourhood. The new walkway is a reflection of our commitment to the community and we are pleased to extend easier access to our customers. We are also thankful to various government departments for their support and cooperation in this endeavour."
Venu, who lives in the Al Nahda area, said: "I have recently moved to Al Nahda and it goes without saying that the Sahara Centre is one of the major attractions around this locality."
The pedestrian bridge has made shopping so much easier, she said.
"I really appreciate this noble initiative," she added.
Rima Chammas, marketing manager, Sahara Centre, said: "The bridge will not only help avoid accidents but will also help control traffic congestion during peak hours and over the weekends. People living in the Al Nahda area opposite Sahara Centre can now have easy access to the mall through the pedestrian bridge."
This is definitely a step in the right direction. I cannot count the times that we've had people run in front of our car trying to cross the road in that particular section. I really hope this is the first of many in Sharjah, because they are desperately needed in other areas as well.

it's really great. Another bridge is required to cross Ittihad road near Ansar Mall where many people died already.

Similar bridge is required in Shabiya Khalifa, Mussafah, Abu Dhabi to cross to Delma Mall before the Mall opens, otherwise crossing the highway is going to be very dangerous.

This is really great but what about a bridge through Ansar mall. .Pedestrians die all the time in that area.
