Dubai: Two lanes on the Abu Dhabi bound carriageway of Shaikh Zayed Road were closed early Thursday morning following flooding due to a pipe burst near the Mazaya Centre.

The lanes were later reopened for traffic after repairs at around 10 am.

Motorists faced huge traffic congestion during the morning rush hours after incident just after the First Interhcange.

"Motorists are advised to use alternate routes including Al Khail Road and Al Wasl Road to avoid delays and traffic jams," a spokesperson of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) told Gulf News.

He said that waterpipe burst near Mazaya Cente on Shaikh Zayed Road forced the authority to close the lanes for safety reasons. The incident happened around 6am causing major traffic chaos in the area.

The emergency teams from the RTA and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reached the spot about an hour after the incident to repair the pipe and reopen the lanes for traffic.
