RTA to monitor cost of driving lessons

Dubai: The number of lessons learner drivers need will remain at 40 and driving schools will have to talk to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) if they want to raise charges, said a top RTA official on Monday.

Hussain Al Banna, Director of the Licensing Department, said the RTA had held a series of meetings with the directors of driving institutes in Dubai to brief them on RTA directives.

The authority has prepared and circulated a draft agreement to all driving institutes in Dubai for review and feedback before final publication.

Al Banna also revealed that the RTA had asked driving institutes not to raise the price of driving sessions without recourse to the authority.

"The RTA always assigns top priority to the interest of the public as part of its public interest and monitoring of market changes," said Al Banna.

He highlighted some aspects of the draft agreement stressing that it does not include any changes in prices or the number of training sessions for learner drivers, which is fixed at 40 sessions.

Training should include theoretical and practical aspects to step up the standards and education of learner drivers in terms of technical aspects, safe driving procedures and the safety of road users.

Services

Such procedures also govern all matters related to training, training fees, training sessions and training routes in a manner that serves driving licence applicants and upgrades the level of services provided by the RTA to the public through driving institutes.
