Planned opening of Dubai Metro Green Line on track

Dubai: Preparations to launch the much-awaited Green Line of the Dubai Metro have been completed with all stations manned with staff and the trains running on the track.

The Green Line will officially be opened to passengers on Friday, September 9, exactly after two years of the launching of the Red Line on September 9, 2009.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has deployed 456 buses to shuttle on 39 routes to serve the Line linking the metro stations with the neighbourhood. This includes the normal route buses and the feeder buses.

The 23 kilometre-long Green Line is the second track for the Dubai Metro project — the longest driverless automatic train system with a total length of 75 kilometres. It includes the 52 kilometre-long Red Line linking areas from Al Rashidiya to Jebel Ali Free Zone.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), inspected the Green Line sure that all systems are ready for the official opening. All the stations have been manned with customer service employees and inspectors.

Al Tayer inspected arrangements made for providing parking spaces for buses and taxis at each station as well as the roads leading to stations and directional signboards among others. He was Engineer Adnan Al Hamadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Rail Agency of the RTA and other senior officials.

The Dubai Metro operator, Serco, has completed the training of front-end and customer service employees at the stations of the Green Line.
