Dubai: A pedestrian safety campaign is being launch-ed today following the success of a similar student safety campaign by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The campaign is being conducted by the Traffic Awareness section of the Traffic Department at the RTA.
Part of a traffic safety programme, the campaign includes 30 government and private schools in Dubai.
The earlier campaign coincided with the final exam period in order to raise the level of awareness of traffic safety among school students who walk in the streets following exams.
Engineer Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency in RTA, said that the awareness teams in the department were coordinating their efforts with the efforts of similar teams at the Dubai Police General Headquarters.
The campaign, she added, aimed to send a signal to parents and teachers of the dangers of allowing children to roam in the streets following exams, urging them to ensure that pupils return home after exams.
Engineer Bader Al Siri, Director of the Traffic Department in the Traffic and Roads Agency, also warned parents against allowing their children to spend their leisure time on the streets during the vacation, urging drivers, especially young ones, to drive responsibly.
