Dubai: In a funny twist, a woman who works in Sharjah ended up in Dubai by mistake during the heavy fog yesterday.
Dubai Police say the woman lives and works in Sharjah.
The woman, who drives her own vehicle, was very confused when she landed in Dubai and called the police to guide her to return to Sharjah, police said. Two people died and two dozen were injured in road accidents because of poor visibility yesterday morning.
Flights were also disrupted as visibility plunged to as low as 100 metres in Dubai and Sharjah.
More fog was predicted by forecasters for this morning thanks to moisture-laden north-westerly winds.
In the worst accident yesterday , two people died and 21 were left injured three of them seriously when three trucks and a bus were involved in a pile-up on Emirates Road near Global Village. Police blamed the accident on speeding.
In a second accident nearby, three children suffered moderate to minor injuries when their school bus collided with a truck.
A string of other accidents were reported to police, many caused because drivers failed to slow down and leave enough space between them and the vehicle in front.
Four flights to Dubai International Airport and three to Sharjah International Airport were diverted because of the plunging visibility, although most headed on to their intended destination once the fog cleared.
Temperatures fell to as low as 19 C in Dubai. The fog, which began at 6am, lasted for around four hours.
