Dubai: The existing e-Bus cards will be valid even after the introduction of the new Unified Automatic Fare Collection cards at the time of launching of the Dubai Metro operation in September, a senior official said.

"Bus passengers will be able to use the e-Bus Cards even after the launching of the Unified Automatic Fare Collection cards named as 'Nol Cards' until the stock lasts" added Essa Abdul Rahman Al Dossari, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Transport Agency at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). He, however, said the e-Bus cards would only be used for bus travel.

"The e-Bus cards will be replaced with the Nol cards at a later stage," said Al Dossari.

The Agency is still proceeding ahead with the use of e-Bus cards as a smart system for collecting fares from passengers of public buses.

"Public Transport Agency has so far sold more than 618,000 e-Bus cards and each card cost Dh18. The holder of the card can use it for 10 journeys and get one free trip," he said. Normal ticket price is Dh2 for single bus journey within Dubai city.

The e-Bus cards were introduced in March this year and are currently being used for travel on 37 routes out of total 80 bus routes.
