Dubai RTA announces traffic diversions in Mirdif for Blue Line Metro works

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced temporary traffic diversions in Mirdif, coinciding with the launch of construction works on the Dubai Metro Blue Line. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes to ensure smooth commutes.

Key traffic changes:

• The roundabout intersection between 5th Street and 8th Street near City Centre Mirdif will be closed. A diversion has been put in place:

  • Traffic from 5th Street will be rerouted to 8th Street toward City Centre Mirdif.

  • Vehicles from 8th Street will be diverted to 5th Street toward Algeria Street.

The RTA urged motorists to stay informed about the diversions and consider alternative routes during the construction period.

Dubai Metro Blue Line: Transformational public transit project

The diversions come as part of the groundbreaking for the much-anticipated Dubai Metro Blue Line — a 30-kilometre corridor that will directly serve around one million residents by 2040.

The line is a core component of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aiming to enhance sustainable mobility and urban connectivity.

The Blue Line will help realise the “20-minute city” vision, ensuring 80% of daily needs are accessible within 20 minutes via efficient public transport.

Districts served by the Blue Line:

The metro line will provide direct connectivity to nine high-density districts:

• Dubai Creek Harbour

• Dubai Festival City

• Ras Al Khor Industrial Area

• International City (Phases 1, 2, and 3)

• Dubai Silicon Oasis

• Academic City

• Al Warqa

• Mirdif

• Al Rashidiya

Route details:

The Blue Line will integrate with the existing metro network, connecting:

• The Green Line at Creek Interchange Station in Al Jaddaf

• The Red Line at Centrepoint Station

The line features 14 stations across two main sections:

1. Creek Interchange to Academic City (21 km)

   • Passes through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor, and International City (1, 2, and 3), with an underground interchange at International City 1.

   • Continues to Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City.

The Dubai Metro Blue Line promises to reduce travel time, ease congestion, and connect residential, commercial, and academic zones, significantly enhancing the city’s public transport ecosystem.
