Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Department announced that changes were made to the traffic signal system on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Road with effect from Monday, December 21, to ensure smooth traffic flow in the city.
The changes covered the area extending from the Intersection of Al Khaleej Al Arabi and Al Sa’ada Road to the Intersection of Al Khaleej Al Arabi and Zayed the First Road.
Lieuteanant Colonel Engineer Hussain Ahmad Al Harthi, Director of Traffic Engineering and Road safety Department, said signal light changes have been made after studying and analysing the magnitude of the traffic movement in Al Khaleej Al Arabi Road which is one of the main arteries leading to Abu Dhabi as part of solutions to reduce traffic jams and bottle necks.
According to the new traffic signal system, the green signal will be open first for vehicles going ahead, and then it will be open for vehicles going to the left. The old system involves opening the green light for all directions at the same time.
“Sign boards carrying instructions and guidelines have been installed to educate motorists about the new signal system,” Al Harthi said, and urged road users to comply with new traffic light system, traffic rules and prescribed speed limits.
He noted that the traffic police would step up traffic campaigns on intersections that witnessed signal changes in addition to various intersections in Abu Dhabi.
Al Harthi warned against violation saying “motorists who violate the mandatory lane discipline will pay a fine of Dh200 and receive two black points.
Motorists who jump the red signal will have to pay a fine of Dh 800, and the vehicle will be seized for 15 days and eight black points will be recorded against them.
