An Emirati student has been expelled from Al Ma'arif Public Secondary School in Dubai after he attacked his chemistry teacher inside the classroom.
The incident took place following a previous confrontation between the two after the Grade 10 student, identified as A.M., provoked his teacher during class that led to an exchange of harsh words. “The teacher couldn't restrain himself and returned the insults, which nearly caused a fight,'' said Mohammad Al Ma'as, the school's principal.
He said an investigation of the previous incident proved that both sides shared responsibility for the incident. Al Ma'as said the teacher was issued a warning and the student was suspended for three days.
Vengeful return
The student, who was supposed to rejoin his class after serving out his suspension, went to the school on Wednesday, March 4, but instead of heading to the school's administration department to report his rejoining, he headed to the teacher's class and started beating him up, said the principal.
“The teacher held himself back and tried to control the student,'' he said. Other students intervened to break up the fight and reported the incident to the school's management. After hearing the testimonies of the students, A.M. was found guilty and his expulsion was approved by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority of Dubai.
Juveniles jailed
Four students of Hamad Bin Mohammad School in Fujairah will spend five months in jail for setting their school on fire last January, an Arabic newspaper reported. The students, identified as A.M., E.A., S.A., and G.A., reportedly admitted to the crime. The fire severely damaged several classrooms.
