Abu Dhabi Co for Onshore Oil Operations has awarded Siemens an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to design and build the electrical power skids for water injection clusters at Bu Hasa oilfield.
The 22-month, multi-million dollar contract will also cover the replacement of all existing and ageing electrical power skids with advanced power supply systems.
These are designed to increase reliability, eliminate shutdowns, and minimise maintenance costs by feeding the surface pump and submersible pump motors.
The Bu Hasa water injection system, to maintain oil production, is supplied by a network of individual water injection clusters, each with a dedicated power skid supplying power to high voltage electrically-driven submersible and surface pumps.
"Around 60-70 per cent of the total scope of the project is Siemens' own field proven equipment, system and technologies," said Habin Braham, business unit manager of Siemens Industrial Solutions oil and gas division.
"The majority reflects our core competence in electrical and control systems EPC, as well as our systems/solutions experience and innovation, which we have developed for the oil and gas industry, especially for the region."
Added Joachim Kundt, chief executive of Siemens llc: "This was one of the most fiercely competed projects in its field here, more so because we were competing with both international companies and directly with local organisations."
