Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum won the 102-kilometre Raid Hipic De Besalu in Spain on Friday to score his first win of the new season abroad.
The CEI-B ride was held in the Spanish town of Besalu with Sheikh Rashid winning the four-stage ride on Tee Whiz.
Known for setting a fast pace, Sheikh Rashid finished third at the end of the first stage and after that took over despite a strong challenge from the local riders.
Strongly challenged by Eduard Dura on Tronka, Sheikh Rashid started the final leg almost on level terms. The more experienced UAE ace, who was the world's top-ranked rider in 1999, did well to finish the 102-kilometre distance in 4 hours 56 minutes and 49 seconds, just one minute and 20 seconds ahead of Dura.
Dura led three other Spanish riders before UAE's Nawaf Mohammed finished sixth. Nawaf, a member of the UAE's junior team which won the gold last year, rode Menhir and finished ahead of 12 other Spanish riders.
