The new Dh87 million Al Dhaid Hospital, the first advanced hospital in the Central Region, was opened yesterday by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The Ruler told reporters following the inauguration ceremony that with the opening of the Al Dhaid Hospital, "medical services have become accessible to patients throughout the emirate."
Dr Sheikh Sultan said this hospital would eliminate the need to travel long distances to the nearest health centre and would make emergency services more accessible.

On his arrival at the hospital, Dr Sheikh Sultan was welcomed by a crowd of nearby residents who expressed their gratitude for this badly needed complex. Accompanied by Minister of Health Hamad Abdul Rahman Al Madfa and Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Medical District, Dr Sheikh Sultan toured the hospital. He visited some of the patients and stressed the importance of providing them with the best care. Al Madfa said the UAE had gone to great lengths to develop its health services, and that the new hospital was a major addition to the heath care system.

The hospital comprises 78 beds and advanced sections, including laboratories, maternity and neonatal wards, ENT clinics, an X-ray unit, in addition to the operating theatres. Other specialisations include physiotherapy, dentistry, internal medicine and orthopaedics. Sheikh Mohammed said, "Al Dhaid Hospital, which has been in operation on an experimental basis since last year, will provide medical services to nearly 100,000 people in the Central Region." He said a similar hospital would be built in Kalba, in addition to a specialised hospital for obstetrics and gynaecology in Sharjah. A new clinic complex is due to open at the Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah later this year.
