Sharjah Ruler inspects Hamriya Free Zone

His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, toured here yesterday the project site of the inner port of Sharjah's Hamriyya Free Zone to acquaint himself with the progress of work there.

Sheikh Sultan was accompanied on the tour by a number of Sheikhs, senior officials and officials in charge of the project, which is to be executed in four phases at a total cost of Dh175million.

After reviewing the project plans and what had so far been accomplished, Sheikh Sultan urged those in charge of the project to ensure that the project is executed efficiently on time.

He ordered the officials in charge of the major Hamriyya Port to see to the improvement of the port's infrastructure so as to attract more ships to the port.

Sheikh Tareq bin Faisal Al Qasimi, chief of Sharjah's Department of Economic Development, who is also the chairman of the general authority of Sharjah free zones, and who accompanied the Sharjah Ruler on the tour, praised Sheikh Sultan for his unflinching support and personal follow-up to every activity in the emirate.

He pointed out that the first and second phases of the project, which will cost Dh75million, will be completed by the end of january 2003, three months ahead of schedule.

He said that through the support and directives of Sheikh Sultan, the Hamriyya Free Zone had now become a major attraction to both local and foreign investments.

He attributed this to the port's distinguished services and facilities. He commended the port's role in the field of industry, commerce and for the great service it renders to the national economy.
