Sand sculpting for kids in air-conditioned comfort

Modhesh Fun City is organising competitions for the best sand sculptures made by children and a series of workshops to encourage them develop real interest in the art.

Kids at Modhesh Fun City will enjoy their own sand sculpture area in air-conditioned comfort.

To offer a taste of what is possible, Jenny Rossen, supervisor and sand sculpture expert had already created a huge, smiling Modhesh, and landmark buildings such as the Burj Al Arab and Emirates Towers.

Hundreds of tonnes of fresh sand was delivered to Modhesh Fun City for the children to play with and be encouraged to create a few amazing sculptures of their own.

"We are always researching ideas whereby children can play and learn," explained Laila Suhail, DSS projects director.

"Sand sculpting fulfills two tasks. Firstly, since we are in the Gulf, every child wants to play with sand at some point. However, the beach is often not possible at the height of summer due to the heat and risk to children from strong sunlight.

"Secondly, sculpting is a creative process, and encouraging children to use their imaginations and powers of creativity is an important part of their development."

Children can happily play all day under the professional supervision of volunteers, all carefully picked and trained by the committee for DSS.

"No one can resist the fantasy of sand sculpting as it takes shape before their eyes, especially children,"says Rossen.

"For me, the art of sand sculpture is a passion and it gives me great pleasure to work with kids."Modhesh Fun City is offering numerous children's entertainment areas and dedicated stage facilities for a packed agenda of shows, competitions and games running until August 30.

Modhesh Fun City is open from 10 am to 10 pm on weekdays and from 3 pm to 10 pm on Fridays. The entrance fee is Dh5 per child and Dh10 per adult.
