Recalled wall and microwave ovens not sold in the UAE

Dubai: Residents need not worry as the recalled wall-oven combination units by General Electric Company are not sold in the UAE.

The civic body was reacting to the decision taken by General Electric Company (GE) to recall about 92,000 microwaves as it posed a fire hazard.

It was reported that the built-in combination wall and microwave ovens in question were sold at department and appliance stores from January 2000 to December 2003 and retailed for between $1,500 and $2,000.

More than 30 cases of property damage have been brought to the notice of GE but there have been no injuries related to the problem.

Eng. Salah Amiri, Director of Dubai Central Laboratory Department said that department was prompt in investigating the matter and had contacted the GE Product & Quality Service Manager of the Middle East & Africa who had clarified that products involved in the recall are 110V/60hz products sold in the US.

A small number of these products were sold in Latin America and Saudi Arabia.
