Rak Ceramics - which claims to be world's biggest manufacturer of gres porcellanato tiles, commissioned its tenth plant at its Ras Al Khaimah manufacturing base thus achieving the milestone of commissioning two plants in a year.
The first plant was commissioned in January for the production of small tiles in 10x10 cm and 15x15 cm format. The new plant will have a capacity of 30,000 square metres of ceramic wall and floor tiles per day in sizes 20x30, 25x33, 25x40, 33x33 and 40x40 cm.
It also will have four presses, two long kilns, apart from some of the cutting edge ceramic technologies that will help this plant become a sophisticated ceramic producer.
Started in 1991 at Ras Al Khaimah with a small production capacity of just 5,000 square metres of ceramic tiles, now RAK Ceramics is globally acclaimed as a leader in the gres porcellanato segment.
In just 11 years, the company has set up eight modern tile and two sanitaryware factories at Ras Al Khaimah that produce 140,000 square metres of ceramic and gres porcellanato wall and floor tiles and 5,000 pieces of sanitarywares per day.
"Today RAK is a global brand that spreads across more than 125 countries including GCC, Europe and U.S. markets," noted Dr Khater Massaad, general manager RAK Ceramics.
On the international front, the company, which also has manufacturing plants in Bangladesh and the Slovak Republic, is well on its way to commission its sophisticated gres porcellanato plant in China early next year for which the civil works have already started.
This plant will have a production capacity of 15,000 square metres tiles per day in 40x40cm, 60x60 cm, 60x120 cm and 100x100 cm sizes.
Sophisticated technologies such as easy oxide mixing, roll feed, MDR, double charge, dual charge etc, will make this factory one of the advanced gres porcellanato factories in the world. The 156 metre length kilns, which are going to be installed, will be the longest in the world.
