Dubai: The Filipino community in the UAE will be celebrating the 111th anniversary of Philippine Independence on Friday, June 12, at the Al Nasr Leisureland, with a free concert featuring young artists from Philippine-based GMA-7 TV.

The Philippine Independence Day (PID) Executive Committee headed by Engr. Dante Delizo disclosed that Yasmien Kurdi, Nadine Samonte and Chris Cayzer will be some of the highlights of the whole day event, which starts at 10am with the holding of the 3rd Migrant Workers Day.

A mini-bazaar, more popularly known as 'tiangge', will be held from 10am to 10pm inside the ice rink area where Philippine real estate properties, Filipino schools, electronic items like 'videoke' machines, food and related products, and other personal items will be promoted and sold.

According to PID Programme Committee head Ollie Pineda, the whole family is invited to attend. "Bring your kids and let them enjoy our 'Kids Corner', which will be available from 10.30am to 12.30pm. There will be face-painting, arts and coloring, story-telling, and other children's related activities," she said.

The 111th Philippine Independence Day programme will commence at 2pm. It will present several competitions, singing and dancing performances, and a series of parades which will showcase the evolution of the Philippine flag and traditional Philippine clothes.

Delizo added that the special guest performers will conduct their show around 8pm. He advised everyone to arrive early in order to enjoy the festivities and interact with the various officers and members of the more than 60 Filipino groups which are helping make the celebration a success.
