Arab ministers of justice are in the process of developing a pan-Arab strategy to combat organised crime, said Mohammed Nakhira Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice and Islamic Affairs and Awqaf.

Al Dhaheri disclosed that the ministers of justice are seeking to devise a set of regulations that transcend national borders in order to curtail the spread of crime which impedes the development of economies.

The ministers and experts at the conference stressed the importance of the United Nations agreement on combating corruption, and agreed to concentrate on money laundering because of its devastating impact on developing countries, said Al Dhaheri.

Abdulraheem Yousef Al Awadi, Vice Chairman of the Appeal Court, said the Arab ministers of justice and the experts underlined the importance of implementing the UN agreement on the war against corruption in order to achieve social justice and uproot organised crime.

Al Awadi added that the ministers must now determine severe penalties for convicted individuals, so as to reduce the level of crime as they inflict considerable damage on the national economy and the fabric of society.
