A national has introduced an "electronic school" on the Internet, providing teachers, students and parents with an online interactive platform.

Describing it as an 'e-school system', Ali Khaled Al Hashimi hopes his initiative will open up a new era for education in the UAE. The e-school can be accessed at http://www.my-e-school.com
Al Hashimi, a managing partner with the Abu Dhabi-based Logic Information Technology, said the web site offers a variety of features such as e-certificates, e-homework, e-parent follow-up, e-staff, e-library, e-exams, e-results, e-entertainment, e-activities, e-contests, e-announcements, e-marks and e-registration.

Schools that are interested will have to register with the site first. The site administrator will give secure passwords to schools to update their records and pass on secondary codes to their students, he explained.

"My-e-school.com is a place where students, parents, teachers and the school administration can share ideas and communicate with each other," said Al Hashimi. The site is designed to encourage dialogue between parents and teachers with easy-to-use and secure online interface and tools, he added.

Parents will be able to use their children's codes to access e-school at any time and from anywhere in the world. The site enables parents to follow-up on their children's performance and communicate efficiently with teachers. Teachers, in turn, can organise their records such as marks, student information, homework and performance with a single click.

The site will also make students more alert and motivate them to improve their performance in the classroom. It also facilitates the flow of information and circulars among teachers and the administration of the school.

Al Hashimi said a number of schools in Abu Dhabi have been contacted and have supported the idea. "Some have even signed a contract with us to implement the system in their school," he stated. "I used my programming skills as well as my business administration degree to come up with this project seven months ago," said Al Hashimi.

The site also allows schools to customise it to suit their needs. A seminar on the web site will be held shortly to create more awareness about the site, said Al Hashimi.
