Dubai: The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has finalised a proposal that will make it possible to work part time in the private sector, reported the local Arabic daily Al Bayan. Humaid Bin Deemas, Acting Director General at the ministry told the daily that the ministry has finished putting together a study which re-examines the rules governing the issuance of temporary work permits in the country as well as allowing part time work for all categories in the private sector.

The ministry is currently coordinating with other departments on the matter so that the final report is submitted to the higher concerned authorities for approval. When approved and applied, the new rules will ensure making use of the human resource available in the country and set rules for protecting employees and employers in the local job market, said Bin Deemas.

Under the current UAE law, the MoL can give out in exceptional cases temporary work permits for a total period of 90 days. The ministry also retains the right to extend the period, said to the daily.
