Major fire contained by Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: A fire broke out in two apartments on top of a residential building on Hamdan Street in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday evening. 

Civil Defence and Abu Dhabi Police reached the spot immediately and put out the fire which originated from the building near Al Salama hospital, a civil defence source told Gulf News. 

The fire erupted just before Iftar and caused serious damage to the two apartments. However, a preliminary search in the gutted apartments suggested that there was no casualties or injuries, he  said.

Investigations into the incident are progressing. 

Residents of the affected building and two other adjoining buildings were evacuated immediately.
