The Sultanate of Oman and Lebanon have signed two agreements to form a joint committee and enhance consultation and coordination between their foreign ministries.

The agreements were signed at the Al Hisn Palace on Monday by Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, for the Sultanate, while Mohammed Hamoud, the Lebanese Foreign and Expatriates Minister, signed it on behalf of his country.

The Lebanese minister in a statement said the agreements reflect the depth of bilateral ties. They will help establish permanent and stable relations between the Sultanate and Lebanon.

He said other agreements will follow in various fields and open up new horizons for bilateral ties. "We, as two governments, work together under the two countries' leaderships to create a model of bilateral cooperation in all sectors," he told the Oman News Agency (ONA).

Yousef bin Alawi said relations between the two countries are expected to strengthen further after this visit of the Lebanese President to the Sultanate during which he will exchange views with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said on the ways and means of initiating cooperation between the two governments and peoples.

He said a number of other agreements will be finalised and endorsed by the two governments. He called on businessmen, investors and the trade sector to benefit from these agreements and promote and expand mutual interests.

Meanwhile, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the Lebanese President Al Imad Emile Lahoud held a meeting at Al Hisn Palace in Salalah on Monday before the Lebanese leader wound up his two-day official visit to Oman.
