Ras Al Khaimah: Doctors performed emergency surgery and saved a five-year-old Arab boy's eyesight on Wednesday.

The boy was trying to fix a toy car with a sharp knife when the knife slipped from his hand and cut his eye.

The Egyptian boy was transferred to Saqr hospital in Ras Al Khaimah from another emirate around 3am. "The fruit knife penetrated 1 cm in the boy's eye," said Dr Emad Messalam, specialist and head of the Ophthalmology Department at Sqar hospital.

The medical team conducted an hour-long surgery and saved the boy's eyesight.

Mohammad Rashid Bin Arshid, Director of Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, warned parents to be careful and not to leave sharp tools in children's hands.
