Members from the UAE Golf Association (UGA) have fought their way into the seventh qualifying event of the Belle Mare Plage Challenge Cup, which took place earlier this week at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort.
Sponsored by AandE, Progolf, Burberry, Emirates airline and Dubai Golf Holidays and Events, the tournament has attracted over 500 players from seven clubs in the UAE. Qualifying rounds had started in October last year and will end with the final at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club on May 8 to coincide with the Arabian Travel Market.
Designed to bring like-minded sportsmen together from the UAE, and to introduce Mauritius as a golfing destination, the Belle Mare Plage, open to all club members, the tournament has already produced some very competitive golf and generated great interest for the destination.
At stake there are 42 places in the final taking place at DCGYC in May and six winners will be invited to play in the Mauritius Open Prom-Am at the Belle Mare Plage golf courses in December this year.
Overall Winner: Keith Evans; Overall Runner-Up: Dean John; 'A' Division: John Mills; 'B' Division: Steve Grisdale; 'C' Division: Andrew Head; Ladies Division: Amy Ainsworth.
