Japanese Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka met Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf here yesterday and reassured him of Tokyo's economic and political support to the frontline state in the war on terrorism, officials said.

The meeting focused on Afghanistan, the Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India and issues related to nuclear proliferation, they said.

Tanaka, currently on a visit to Pakistan, has earlier held detailed talks with Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar. She conveyed to Musharraf a message of solidarity from Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and an invitation to visit Japan.

On Saturday, Tanaka held "warm" talks with a senior UN official on the refugee crisis in Afghanistan.
